One of the quickest ways to achieve a “win” on improving your overall appearance is by taking care of your smile. Here are a few tips on how to have a better smile.
1. Make better choices in your diet.
Cutting out sugary sweets is probably one of the more obvious better choices, but did you know that eating healthier, whole foods on a regular basis can reduce inflammation and improve your smile? Adding in more vegetables and fruits in place of sugary or starchy items is a great way to improve not just your waistline, but also your oral health.
2. Drink lots of water.
Aside from making better food choices, increase you water consumption as well. Drinking water helps the teeth become cleaner. Water washes away the residues of what you ate and helps prevent tooth decay. Next time you are about to pick a drink, choose water instead of those drinks that are laden with sugar.
3. Quit using tobacco.
Tobacco stains on your teeth can make you look older, and smoking can cause gums to become inflamed. Tobacco use can also increase the risk of developing gum disease, a leading cause of tooth loss. If you’ve been wanting to quit for a while, this might be a good time to try. Your oral health will benefit from kicking the habit. Tobacco can cause Increased risk of developing gum disease, a leading cause of tooth loss.
4. Reduce coffee, tea and red wine consumption.
Coffee, tea, and wine are similar to tobacco in that they can yellow your teeth. These beverages contain tannins, a naturally occurring compound that stains the teeth. Over time, they build up on the tooth enamel. Reducing your consumption may reduce yellowing on your teeth.
5. Make improvements to your daily oral health routine.
Consider purchasing a water flosser or electric toothbrush for better cleaning. If you don’t already floss regularly (most people hate flossing, so you aren’t alone), maybe start by resolving to floss your teeth every day.
6. Go for teeth whitening.
As said earlier, we consume things that can discolor our teeth. If the damage is there already – you may now have visible stains on your teeth and they are now yellowish, don’t fret. Your smile can still improve. Why not try teeth whitening? Let the professionals do the work though if you want to achieve results.
7. Straighten those teeth!
Not all people are born with nice, perfect teeth. If you were born with crooked teeth, and you feel like it’s affecting your smile, you could try having braces installed. You have to be patient though. It may take some time before you achieve the results, but it will surely be worth it in the end. So, if this is your concern, don’t worry! It’s still possible to straighten those teeth!
8. Moisturize those lips.
Your lips frame those pearly whites. Even though you have white and straight teeth, the attention will be drawn away from that if you have dry, chapped lips. Work on your teeth but also, make sure you moisturize your lips as well.
9. Keep happy thoughts.
There’s nothing like a smile that comes from positive thoughts. This is the smile that comes naturally, effortlessly. And people will notice that – a real smile is really hard to miss.
10. Go to the dentist regularly.
Some people go to the dentist because they really need to. Even though you find nothing wrong with your teeth, it’s still a must to see your dentist consistently. There may be concerns that the untrained eye can’t see. As they say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
And through regular dentist consultations you can also discuss options mentioned above such as teeth whitening, having braces, etc. You can explore cosmetic dentistry options also. Whiter, brighter, straighter smiles are very attractive. Cosmetic dentistry has become one of the easiest ways to improve self-esteem, social life and even your career.
