Discover the Benefits of Laser Dentistry
Laser dentistry has been used in dental offices since 1994.
A laser is a dental instrument that produces an intense beam of coherent monochromatic light. This laser light can be used to cut, remove or shape tissue. A lower intensity laser can be used to cure dental sealants very quickly or to give a much superior whitening of teeth.
Laser Dentistry Applications
In soft tissue laser surgery, the laser beam can make very small incisions when the beam is focused on the tissue. A laser beam will naturally sterilize as it cuts which leads to a decrease in local infections. Using a laser in dentistry frequently causes less pain and minimizes bleeding since it coagulates as it cuts.
Soft tissue lasers are ideal for:
- Removing or reshaping gum tissue during crown lengthening.
- Remove inflamed gum tissue when treating gum disease.
- Performing biopsy procedures.
- Treating Herpetic lesions and cold sores.
Laser Teeth Whitening
Lasers are used to speed up in-office teeth whitening procedures. A carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide whitening solution is applied to the teeth and a laser using a special wavelength is used. The laser activates the whitening process to accelerate the results.
Dental curing lights are used to quickly cure resin based composites, sealants and cements. These lights can be a LED at a special wavelength, a halogen curing light or a curing laser. These units will emit a visible blue light which cures these resins. This blue light is completely safe and does not produce any UV light which is an older technology.
Laser dentistry and light curing technology is truly some of the great innovations in dental medicine in the last 20 years. Discover the benefits of using a dental laser by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Kidess. Contact Dr. Kidess at her Paradise Valley location at (480) 991-2290.
