Important Dental Habits to Keep Up With If you’ve ever felt tempted to skip brushing your teeth or flossing at night because you’re too tired, you’re not alone. In fact, many times, people will also put off routine dental appointments because they are inconvenient and don’t seem that important. But here are three important dental habits to keep up with and compelling reasons to not break habit.

Three Important Dental Habits to Keep Up With

  1. Brushing your teeth twice daily; especially at night. When you go to bed without brushing, you’re allowing the bacteria left in your mouth all night to eat away at the enamel on your teeth. Doing this enough will eventually cause yellowed teeth from exposed dentin and stains, and can cause the creation of cavities.
  2. Flossing your teeth. This is probably the least favorite routine and the one most commonly skipped. Flossing is important because it gets in between your teeth where your toothbrush isn’t able to reach to remove stuck food that can cause cavities. Skipping this routine can eventually cause inflammation in the gums, sensitivity and bleeding.
  3. Routine Cleanings. They’re inconvenient, you’ve got to plan ahead and take time off of work to go. Routine cleanings, however, help to remove any build-up that may have occurred and gives you a “fresh start.”

While it may seem harmless to skip one of these every now and then, these are important dental habits to keep up with because missing one time usually leads to justification for the next time, and the next.
